Abortion kills babies — self-evidently, it would seem. In fact, when people whom I know to be sane and compassionate in their dealings with other human beings are somewhat cavalier about the issue of abortion (I am not speaking of medical emergencies but rather of your nonessential common or garden-variety abortion), I sometimes feel like the little boy in the Hans Christian Andersen story who was the only one who noticed out loud that the emperor wasn’t wearing any clothes. Abortion is so expedient. It solves so many problems. But, then, so would throwing Rod Blagojevich into a vat of battery acid.
